Scene 2
(The same; Siegfried comes out of the bushes next to the shore)

Siegfried: Hagen! Sleepyhead! Didn't you hear me coming?

Hagen: (waking up) Hello, Siegfried! How did you sneak up on me like that? Where did you come from?

Siegfried: From Brünnhilde's rock! That was where I breathed the air I used to call to you just then! That Tarnhelm is great! The other two are coming along in my boat.

Hagen: Did you get Brünnhilde?

Siegfried: Is Gutrune awake?

Hagen: (calling for her) Hey, Gutrune! Come here! Siegfried's here! What are you waiting for?

Siegfried: I'll tell you both how I got Brünnhilde. (Gutrune enters)

Siegfried: (to Gutrune) Hello! I've got great news!

Gutrune: Have you brought honor and love back with you?

Siegfried: Listen! I'm so happy! Today, you're going to be my wife!

Gutrune: Is Brünnhilde with my brother?

Siegfried: (proud of himself) It was easy!

Gutrune: The fire didn't bother him?

Siegfried: It would have, but I went through it for him. I wanted to have you!

Gutrune: Were you all right?

Siegfried: Piece of cake.

Gutrune: Did she think you were Gunther?

Siegfried: I looked just like him! Hagen told me the Tarnhelm would work, and it did.

Hagen: Just like I said.

Gutrune: So, you won her over for him?

Siegfried: She gave in - to Gunther's strength.

Gutrune: And she was married to you?

Siegfried: She was Gunther's all night long.

Gutrune: But I thought you were posing as Gunther!?

Siegfried: I was here with you.

Gutrune: So…Brünnhilde was with him?

Siegfried: Between East and West, there's North. (pointing to his sword) Brünnhilde was this close, but that far away.

Gutrune: So, how did Gunther finally get her from you?

Siegfried: In the morning, the fire was dying out. She followed me down to the valley, where Gunther and I switched places while she wasn't looking. I used the Tarnhelm to get here, and they're coming back in my boat. They'll be here pretty soon!

Gutrune: Siegfried, that's amazing! Is there anything you can't do?

Hagen: (looking downstream) I see a sail, off in the distance.

Siegfried: I told you.

Gutrune: Let's make her feel welcome so she'll want to stay! Hagen, you go call your men to the Hall for the wedding! I'll get all the women together to make a banquet for us. They'll be so excited! (starts toward the hall, then turns to Siegfried) You've had a busy day; do you want to rest a while?

Siegfried: All I care about is that you're happy. (takes her hand and goes with her to the hall)
